Utility-Scale Solar

Utility-scale solar installations generate power to be distributed to an electric utility company, which then disperses the generated electricity to residential and commercial customers connected to the grid. PPC has worked with companies across New Mexico and Colorado to deliver utility-scale solar arrays.

PPC recently spearheaded the engineering, procurement and construction of the “Oh Be Joyful” 1.47 MW DC utility-scale array in Crested Butte, Colorado. Completed in April of 2026, this solar array is located at 8,900 ft in elevation and will generate 2,609 MWh per year. The array location is adjacent to an avalanche zone requiring an avalanche runoff study which resulted in curving boundaries as well as buffer mounds. The high alpine location presented exceptional environmental conditions and a very short building season which required tight timelines and coordination at every step along the way.

Eventually, system owners will be confronted by system performance, reliability, and asset management priorities. Having an O&M contract in place with a reputable firm helps to minimize plant downtime, prompt greater output, and cost effectively realize faster investment returns.
